Today's guest is someone I greatly admire. Tobi, the founder of Three Skills, is here with us. His company's mission? To train the most employable candidates globally by empowering them to articulate their value. With over 17,000 individuals trained, it's a number that truly blew my mind when I discovered it on their website. I first came across Tobi's on LinkedIn. It soon became very clear that there are three certainties in life - Death, Taxes, and Tobi’s LinkedIn Post. What's even more impressive, though, is the wealth of knowledge he generously shares for free.
Tobi's story begins in Nigeria, but in 2010, life took an unexpected turn when he found himself in Canada, thanks to his father's decision to send him here. Initially hesitant, Tobi eventually embraced the opportunity and completed his high school year in Hamilton, Ontario. With a desire to spare his parents any embarrassment, Toby applied to universities as a safety net. Yet, his heart was set on playing professional soccer in England.
While professional soccer did not come to fruition, Carleton University became Tobi's new home, where he pursued a business degree with a focus on human resources – a nod to his father's own career path. This choice would prove pivotal. While also competing in varsity soccer for a year, Toby began exploring various side hustles from his second year onwards. That entrepreneurial spark only got brighter.
After graduation, Tobi plunged into the world of tech sales. By 2020, he transitioned to customer success, and in 2022, he was leading the sales charge at Shopify! But 2023 brought a monumental decision: Tobi bid farewell to the corporate world, choosing to fully focus on building his businesses.
Tobi called in today from Paris embodying what I like to call "Mr. Worldwide" energy. His journey from Nigeria to Canada, through the halls of academia, and into the corporate arena, reflects a tale of relentless determination and entrepreneurial spirit. Although the dream of playing for Arsenal didn't materialize, Toby remains undaunted. His new ambition? To one day own a soccer team and, of course, fulfill the promise of a Rolls Royce for his mom. With the way his business is doing, it’s only a matter of time before it comes true!
Tobi's story is a testament to the power of resilience, adaptability, and unyielding ambition. From his hesitant beginnings in Canada to becoming the visionary behind Three Skills, his journey is an inspiration to budding entrepreneurs and individuals carving their own paths. Tobi's story reminds us that sometimes, it's the unexpected detours that lead us to the most extraordinary destinations.
