Every year, there’s a new trend. Fat is BAD, protein is GOOD! You know the drill. Strava is the new status signal. If you went for a run and didn’t log it, did you even run?!
In the journey to get stronger and fitter, alcohol has become the ENEMY. As someone who has lost 50+ pounds, I can confirm that alcohol sets you back on the fat loss journey. And yes, it ruins your sleep, makes you eat junk, etc. Science has established that there are no biological benefits to drinking alcohol. I’m not here to disagree.
But here’s the thing, I don’t think you can quantify how you feel after a couple of drinks on a sunny day with your closest friends and partner. It feels fucking awesome! Laughing, sharing a bite, that’s what makes life worth living!

We’ve been drinking alcohol for hundreds of years! It’s a bonding mechanism. That doesn’t just change overnight. It’s a way to drop your guard and have a good time. And if that means your sleep score wasn’t 100 one night, so be it! The cost of community is inconvenience.
I’m willing to bet getting a couple of drinks with people you love, once every few weeks, will do FAR more for your longevity and mental health than hitting a 100-day 100-sleep-score streak.
Do work that interests you, eat right 80% of the time, work out 5 days a week, sleep well most nights, and once in a while, get a drink with the boys.
